China's Huang Qiushuang captured the women's all-around title at the Tokyo World Cup Friday, becoming the most successful all-around gymnast on the World Cup circuit this season in the process.
With a consistent performance (14s across the board, and the top score on each event) Huang easily bested a lesser-experienced seven-woman field that included Germany's Kim Bui and Nadine Jarosch, as well as British talent Elizabeth Beddoe and Australia's Mary Anne Monckton.
Japan's Yu Minobe, a member of the 2011 World team, finished second in her first World Cup meet this season, while Bui nabbed a bronze to go with the silver she won at the Stuttgart World Cup two weeks ago.
Huang's first-place finish in Tokyo assures that she is the overall World Cup champion in women's gymnastics this season (here's how to understand the World Cup points system). It may also help rehabilitate her status on the Chinese team -- Huang was named alternate to the 2011 World team and subbed in for Wu Liufang at the last minute in Tokyo.
