Yandy Smith (VH1), Charlamagne Tha God (Power 105), MC Lyte (BET), Roland Martin (TV One), Ben Chavis (HSAN), Michael Skolnik (Global Grind), Rob Hill, and Sonja Norwood helped kick off the 2013 Howard University Homecoming celebration by participating in the Entertainment Power Summit.
The Entertainment Power Summit (EPS), the brainchild of HU student Jamal Minor, is a series of forums where entertainers, executives, entrepreneurs and social activists reveal the stories behind their success to inspire and motivate the next generation of young leaders.
Charlamagne was the host of the "Hip-Hop Unplugged" discussion, and he had his hands full with the accomplished and opinionated panel. Chavis, Martin, Skolnik, and MC Lyte gave the capacity audience a primer on how hip-hop has made an impact on our culture artistically and politically.
Rob Hill, an author and motivational speaker, may have been the youngest member of the panel, but he still held his own during the spirited discourse.
The HU Homecoming activities continue Thursday (October 24th) with the HU Fashion Show (6:30 pm and 9:30 pm) at Cramton Auditorium (2455 Sixth Street).
The world famous Howard University International Yardfest takes place Friday beginning at 12:00 noon. Big Sean, Juicy J, A$AP Ferg, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony are among the many acts scheduled to perform.
Also on Friday, is the annual R&B concert featuring superstar vocalist Erykah Badu (10:30 pm) at Cramton Auditorium.
Saturday of course, is the HU Homecoming Parade and the big football game against the archrival Morgan State University Bears. After the game are two more concerts at Cramton: Eric Benet and Lil Duval (7:00 pm); Trey Songz and Brandy (10:00 pm).
