Now that the launch of the highly anticipated HTC One M8 is out of the way, HTC has a couple of new tasks on its agenda. First up is the release of the pint-sized variant of the new HTC One M8, the HTC One mini. Following that, HTC will bring the Sense 6 UI to older model HTC devices.
The HTC One M8 mini is heading to retail this summer, slated for a release date in May. As GSMArena reports (March 31), an unnamed source inside a UK retailer tipped this bit of info to 3G.co.uk. Price, release date and carrier availability specifics are unknown at this time. More information should become available as we get closer to the One M8 mini's official launch date.
Staying true to the HTC One M8 flagship phone, the mini variant will feature the same 90 percent aluminum unibody design and on screen buttons. Previous leaks reveal the HTC One M8 mini’s specs rundown to consist of a 4.5-inch display with a pixel resolution of 720p. It houses 1.4 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor from Qualcomm alongside 1GB of RAM.
Although there’s no Duo camera like on the HTC One M8, the One M8 mini has a 13MP UltraPixel back camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. There’s 16GB of built-in storage on board to hold your precious photos, and if you need more wiggle room, a microSD slot has got you covered. Just like the One M8, the One M8 mini will be sporting the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat from Google with the new HTC Sense 6 UI.
Older model HTC smartphones are scheduled to receive the Sense 6 update in the near future, as confirmed by HTC at last week’s HTC One M8 launch. Included on the list are the HTC One M7, the HTC One Dual SIM (M7C), the HTC One Max (T6), the HTC One Mini (M4) and the Butterfly S (DLXP). Devices in various regions are either in the process of receiving or will receive the first round of Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates featuring Sense 5.5.
As G 4 Games reports, a leaked image of the software update schedule for HTC devices shared by LlabTooFeR spills the details. The chart indicates that the Sense 6 update will arrive to the aforementioned phones in a second dose of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update during the months of June and July. The HTC One M7 flagship could receive the Sense 6 UI update in as early as May, according to the document.
Sense 6, arriving much earlier than expected, will bring a set of new user experience enhancements to older HTC phones. HTC device owners will notice a refresh of the Gallery app, BlinkFeed, Sense TV, camera app and security options.
As with most software update roll-outs, the over-the-air push to devices will occur in segments and the schedule is subject to change.
