The HSFC is holding the 6th annual Bark and Boogie Ball to benefit homeless animals in Forsyth County this Saturday, September 11th beginning at 7:00 in the Metropolitan Club on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta.
The black tie affair features a live band, dinner and dancing. Both live and silent auctions will be held with thousands of dollars worth of fabulous items available, including trips to Costa Rica,Italy and even an African (photo) safari.
(A no-kill animal shelter, the HSFC could not send its patrons out to hunt wildlife.)
All proceeds from the evening benefit the Humane Society of Forsyth County's shelter on Keith Bridge Road in Cumming.
Help sell out this year's Bark & Boogie Ball to show the homeless animals how much North Georgia cares about them. Share this with your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. This year's Ball is sure to be the best ever. Get your tickets today at www.forsythpets.org/bbb
You may also donate to the shelter by cleaning out your closet and garage and taking the items you don't need or want anymore to the HSFC thrift store in the Tri-County shopping plaza on Highway 9 in Cumming at GA. 400 and exit 14, between Gold's Gym and Big Lots.
Show your compassion for these animals, an often neglected and forgotten part of God's creation!

Given the subject matter of this author's posts, It would be easy to make a wisecrack about natural selection and the homeless animals. Most scientists and evolutionary biologists, I would guess, would support a cause such as this. Just because one accepts evolution and natural selection as an explanation for the expansion of life on this planet, doesn't mean one is immoral or selfish or has a tendency toward immoral or selfish behavior. (And I don't mean to suggest that the author of this post was making that claim here either.)
This actually sounds like a fun, great cause. Hope it raises a lot of money!
J Mike,
I'm glad to see we can agree on something.
It will be a lot of fun. Hope to see you there.
Further responding to your post, I would never suggest that someone does evil because they are atheist. Many "church going" people are just going through the motions and equally capable of great evil.
I don't think anyone who believes in natural selection/evolution as "the" explanation for life and the universe is evil or necessarily immoral. Just mistaken.
I don't think going to church makes someone good. I do believe that the more seriously one takes the possibility of God, the more likely they try to lead a life where they do minimal harm to others.
I would argue that your final sentence is a variation of the 'No True Scotsman' fallacy - there's plenty of evidence the the level of 'devoutness' has little relationship to minimizing harm to others.
In fact, true believers - religious or otherwise - often use those beliefs to justify what would otherwise be 'immoral' actions.
At the same time, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any solid evidence the non-religious are more inclined to commit 'immoral' acts.
All that said, I'm way too far away to support this event, but good luck with helping the critters. Good cause.

I believe that the more seriously one takes trying to lead a life where they do minimal harm to others, the more likely they will lead a life where they do minimal harm to others, regardless of their belief in the supernatural. If it is a belief in God or gods that helps one do this, that's great. They shouldn't change a thing. If they don't have this belief but can still strive to lead this lifestyle, then that's just as great, too. Neither should they change a thing.
