Every once in a while I am thoroughly impressed with Des Moines' entertainment when it brings up-and-coming Latinos to the city. Hoyt Sherman Fall line-up does just that with two shows you do not want to miss. Mark your calendar with the following dates and make sure to be at 1501 Woodland in Des Moines for:
Rodrigo y Gabriela on Oct. 3:
Getting their start in pubs in Ireland, this musical duo specializes in playing fast, rhythmic, thumping acoustic guitars. Originally from Mexico City, Rodrigo Sanchez, lead guitarist, and Gabriela Quintero, rhythm guitarist, have put out six albums, winning international acclaim and becoming cross over sensations after releasing their most recent album, titled 11:11 in September 2009. Since then, they have reached popularity in America as featured musicians on Monday Night Football, and their song Santo Domingo was chosen as the Starbucks iTunes Pick of the Week for November 10, 2009. They were the musical guest on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson", "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", and "Lopez Tonight". Rodrigo y Gabriela even performed for President Barack Obama in May 2010.
Also coming to Hoyt Sherman, on November 14, (the day after Cake Boss, Buddy Velasco stops by for a visit), see Mr. Fluffy himself, comedian Gabriel Iglesias take the stage. You may have heard his comedy on Last Comic Standing or one of two hour-long specials on Comedy Central. His mass appeal stems from his ability to make light of his size, while mixing in tales of growing up Mexican American in Southern California, dating mishaps and sound effects thrown in for extra laughs. For a hilariously funny, hot and fluffy mess, get tickets for his one-night only show coming soon!
