In metal circles, the Providence based band Howl made some good impressions with their 2010 debut, “Full of Hell”. With heavier than hell percussion and riffs on songs like “Heavenless” and “You Jackals Beware”, the guys in Howl got some much deserved attention. And being out on numerous tours, including shows with Skeletonwitch and what seems like an almost yearly voyage out to South by Southwest, Howl cut their teeth and hone their live skills anywhere and everywhere they could.
With that behind them now, the band took a little while to get things right in the studio for their sophomore full length release. Due April 30th, “Bloodlines”, delivers more of the same punches, perhaps with a little more sheen than before. Produced by “Zeuss” Harris, “Bloodlines” is doom metal to the core, and when listening to the new songs “Attrition”, fans of the debut aren’t gonna be left disappointed with the new material.
After hitting SXSW again this year, and playing several shows during that time period- the band heads back on the road for the remainder of their tour- which ends with a hometown show in Providence on April 3rd. Before that, the band heads to a place in the Detroit area that doesn’t really get a whole lot of shows when the band hits the Berkley Front. So, if you want to drink some good beers and throw yourself around in a small space, check out Howl in Berkley and see the latest from the band.
Howl plays at the Berkley Front on Sunday, March 24th. Tickets are $8 and are available at the door. Additional tour dates and band info can be found at www.facebook.com/howlheavymetal.
