Howard Stern trashed Dr. Keith Ablow Tuesday morning, after hearing the celebrity psychiatrist's statement that watching transgender Dancing with the Stars contestant Chaz Bono perform could be dangerous for children.
Ablow used to be the Howard Stern Show's on-call shrink. During the 2007 HSS season, he provided on air pre-marital counseling for Stern and his then fiance Beth Ostrosky. Ablow also advised Howard Stern Show writer Sal Governale on his marital troubles with his wife Christine and was involved in multiple on air conferences about co-host Artie Lange's addiction and depression. Ablow is now a contributor for FOX News, where he recently published a blog post entitled "Don't Let Your Kids Watch Chaz Bono on Dancing with the Stars". In the piece, he refers to Chaz Bono's casting as a "tragic celebration" of transgender surgery and states:
The last thing vulnerable children and adolescents need, as they wrestle with the normal process of establishing their identities, is to watch a captive crowd in a studio audience applaud on cue for someone whose search for an identity culminated with the removal of her breasts, the injection of steroids and, perhaps one day soon, the fashioning of a make-shift phallus to replace her vagina...It would be wrong to think that gender dysphoria cannot be kindled by celebrating those who have undergone sexual reassignment surgery.
Howard Stern, who has long been a champion of the LGBT community had this to say in response to Ablow's warning:
"You know what? Explain the real world to your kids and they’ll be fine. They’re not going to become transgender. Dr. Keith’s off his f***ing rocker."
Stern applauded the Chaz Bono casting and encouraged his listening audience to vote to keep him on DWTS as long as possible.
"I love it! I support him!" said Stern Tuesday.
Stern will also be cheering on his close personal friend and HSS Celebrity Superfan David Arquette during this season's Dancing with the Stars.
