Howard Stern is reveling in Jay Leno's misery. Wednesday, Stern praised executives at NBC for their decision to "torture" Leno with a full year on air before he's kicked to the curb and replaced on "The Tonight Show" by the younger, cuter Jimmy Fallon in 2014.
Rumors that Leno was about to be ousted from his "Tonight Show" position broke weeks ago, but NBC finally confirmed the news Wednesday. Leno is being dethroned in spite of the fact that he consistently comes in first in the ratings.
“I want to congratulate NBC on this and thank them," said Stern. "Because I’ve been praying for this. The way you’re torturing [Jay] and keeping him on the air? It’s just brilliant. I love you. It’s fantastic.”
Stern has had a long running feud with Leno since the late night host poached his writer "Stuttering John Melendez" for an announcer position at "The Tonight Show". Stern has since repeatedly accused Leno's writers of stealing Howard Stern Show material and regularly bashes Leno on air.
Wednesday, Stern was downright gleeful about Leno's demise.
“I love it all," said Stern. "Who cares. It’s fun. Isn’t it fun? Who could ever imagine someone could handle things so poorly. It’s great. They’re going to keep Jay on till when, 2014?...They should make Jay sit on the floor next to Jimmy’s desk when he takes over.”
Stern is currently employed by NBC as a judge for "America's Got Talent".
