LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Popular radio personality, Howard Stern is said to be in talks to replace Piers Morgan on “America’s Got Talent,” according ABC News.
Morgan, who took over for Larry King at the beginning of the year, announced he will not return to “Talent” next season because he wants to focus on his CNN talk show, “Piers Morgan Tonight.”
“I’ve loved every single second, but discovered that juggling, to my surprise, really is a bit more difficult than I thought,”Morgan said.
Stern, whose expressed interest in being a talent judge, could make $15 million a year under the proposed deal with NBC.
The $15 million dollar a year pay day speaks volumes about Stern’s celebrity status and ability to draw new viewers. Judges on reality shows typically earn $2 million to $5 million a season.
Last year, rumors of Stern joining the “American Idol” judging table swirled after Simon Cowell announced he was leaving to host “The X Factor.”
“They’ve got a bunch of people on there who don’t have an opinion,”Stern said during his radio broadcast.
The King of all media would join fellow talent judges, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel as singers, magicians, dancers and comedians of all ages compete for the million-dollar prize.
According to the Wall Street Journal, NBC is even considering moving the Los Angeles-based show to New York, where Stern could continue to his popular satellite radio show for Sirius XM. It’s a move that would cost the network an additional $10 million.
However, Stern, with his large devoted fan base is likely to generate millions of dollars for the network through ad revenue.
