Howard Stern predicts this year's Academy Award winners

King of All Media Howard Stern instructed his subjects on who would win this years Academy Awards shortly after the Oscar nominations were announced Tuesday morning.

In gleefully self-centered and characteristic fashion, Howard Stern presented his picks not as predictions, but as irrefutable, Oscar winner facts--as a King might decree them. After making his Academy Awards selections, he announced to his audience: "There's your answers. Now you know. You won't have to watch the show."

Howard Stern's 2010 Academy Awards selections:

Best Supporting Actress

Mo'Nique for 'Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire'

"Mo'Nique will win," said Howard Stern. "It's her year."

Robin Quivers tried to dispute the pick with an assertion that the Oscar for 'Precious' would go to the film's main star Gabourey Sidibe.

"No," replied Howard Stern drily. "Because she wasn't acting."

Best Supporting Actor

Christoph Waltz for 'Inglourious Basterds'

Howard Stern first granted the honor to Woody Harrelson for his performance in the war drama/twisted romance flick 'The Messenger'. Then he heard Christoph Waltz's nomination for his performance as a freaky Nazi in 'Inglourious Basterds' and changed his mind.

"Christoph Waltz will win, but I gotta say, Woody Harrelson was amazing."

Best Actress

Howard Stern granted this year's Best Actress Oscar to veteran Meryl Streep for her performance in 'Julie and Julia'. "She deserves it," said Howard Stern of his somewhat surprising chick flick pick. "She is fantastic in everything that she does."

Stern also called actress Carey Mulligan's performance in 'An Education' "terrific," but said it won't bring her home the gold. Helen Mirren was "out" for her performance in 'The Last Station' as well.

"You can't even sit through 'The Last Station'. I tried. It's humanly impossible."

Stern called Oscar newcomer Sandra Bullock's performance in 'The Blind Side' to be "too light" to score her the prize, but Robin Quivers asserted that Bullock could be a spoiler.

Best Actor

According to Howard Stern, this year's Best Actor Oscar will go to Jeff Bridges for his role in 'Crazy Heart'. "I didn't see it," said Stern. "But it will probably win."

Howard Stern said that actor Jeremy Renner deserved to win for his role in 'The Hurt Locker,' but it's just simply not in the cards for this Oscar newbie.

Stern said that George Clooney's Oscar-nominated performance in 'Up in the Air' was "a little flat".

Best Director:

Howard Stern says that the honor will go to James Cameron for 'Avatar,' and with good reason. Stern has worked in 3D as well, and felt it gave him additional insight into Cameron's work.

"I had Jessica Hahn and an elephant in 3D, and it's no easy task" said Stern.

Best Picture:

The honor will, of course, go to James Cameron's 'Avatar,' or as Howard Stern's father Ben Stern calls it: "Avadah".

Stern called Best Picture nominees 'District 9,' 'The Hurt Locker,' and 'Inglourious Basterds' all "great movies" that "won't win". 'Precious' has "no chance" according to the King. Best Picture nominee 'A Serious Man' by the Coen Brothers was a "horrible movie" that Stern "couldn't even watch 15 minutes.

The Academy Awards will be held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, CA on Sunday, March 7 at 8:00PM EST.

  • Howard Stern is IGNORANT! 2 years ago

Someone tell Howard Stern that Gabourey Sidibe and Mo'Nique are not competing in the same category. Sidibe is nominated for Best Actress. Mo'Nique is nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

And if anyone ever sees Sidibe interviewed on TV, it's obvious that her personality and intelligence -- even her tone of voice -- are the exact OPPOSITE of her character in "Precious." She wasn't "being herself" in that role -- not to mention that she was in her mid-20s playing a 16-year-old. She did an excellent acting performance in "Precious," but I doubt she'll win because they usually give the Best Actress Oscar to someone who's been doing movies for years. Jennifer Hudson is one of the few actors who's gotten an Oscar for her first movie, and that was for Best Supporting Actress.
