Howard Stern picks worst two weeks in history to take a vacation

While Howard Stern relaxes, the world waits,...

For fans of The Howard Stern Show, there is no good time for the King of All Media to take a vacation.  “Repeat weeks” on Sirius XM are the bane of Howard Stern fans collective existences.  We need the guidance of our fearless, neurotic, caustic leader to keep us sane during our commutes and to give us his candid, acerbic perspective on the news of the day.  Every day.

So—any vacation time for Howard Stern is bad for Howard Stern fans.  This most recent two-week vacation run, however, takes the cake (that’s the Artie Lange cupcake—not the douchey Baba Booey one).  The Howard Stern Show went on vacation literally within hours of Michael Jackson’s death, leaving a commentary black hole in the biggest celebrity news story of our generation—not to mention the fact that he’s also missed Farrah Fawcett and Billy Mays kicking the bucket, Sarah Palin resigning from office because she hates quitters, and Governor Mark Sanford’s unchecked monologue about his Argentinian soulmate.

With five full days still to go before Howard Stern and his band of demented misfits return live on air, who knows what other significant events we’ll have to forgo commentary on.  It leaves Howard Stern Show mega-fans wondering just exactly what it would take for Howard Stern to break his silence and hop on air for a quickie surprise ISDN broadcast like he did a few months ago-just to let us know he feels our pain.

Does Don Imus’ head need to spontaneously explode all over one of Deer-der’s vegetarian lasagnas?  Would that do it?  Or maybe news of Richard and Sal commandeering a Tradio studio and taking hostages?  The real question now is whether or not The Howard Stern Show cast will even have time to address all of the issues that they’ve missed out on commenting on, or whether some of the lesser stories will just get kicked to the back of the closet like an unused case of Sphincterine.

With five days and counting, Howard Stern fans are thirsty for Howard Stern like the “Can I taste your juice?” lady is for,…ya know,….juice.

Vacation again? This guy is on vacation every other week and off every single Friday. What the hell are we paying for sirius to listen to reruns constantly. I've had enough - I am cancelling, not that Howard gives a crap - he took the money and he will run when his contract is up.

  • Rocko 2 years ago

Nothing on earth could get Howard to jump out of vacation and get on the air.

He hates work just like the rest of us.

The ISDN was put in for emergencies. I doubt it will ever get used again.

I believe that Howard Stern has singlehandedly ruined the livelihood of Sirius radio. First, he never brought over the listenership that he thought he would. Next, he was against the merger until he realized Sirius was going under without it. Now, all of a sudden, he was in favor. I call that a hypocrite. With the amount of vacation time he takes, listeners are annoyed at hearing repeats and bailing out of their subscriptions (I am one of them). His outrageous salary has just about bankrupted Sirius. He doesnt care - he has his money, his is about to retire, he has that bleached blonde wife, who by the way, is a nobody, just Howard Stern's wife. the show has gotten redundant and repetitive. I'm done!!

I listen to the Adam Carolla podcast, better guests and far better interviews. Oh and its free on itunes without commercials.

I thought the same thing these last couple weeks with all the hoopla going on. Always good to hear Howards take on things, even when I disagree. Howard puts on an excellent show, maybe even better than his terrestrial days, it's just to bad he doesn't seem to care about the fans by putting on lazy replays and very bad programming on both his channels. (Bubba the love sponge replaying his terrestrial show every day, that is just plain horrible programming. His show already sucked, now it isn't even live, and deals with local Florida news, now that's just not good radio). I'm hoping Howard ends up pod casting somewhere, and giving up on the dead end business of satellite radio. BABA BOOEY BABA BOOEY

Howard took the pack off long ago. If it wasn't for the likes of Sal and Richard nothing on that show would be worth lisetening to. Vacations, Fridays off, 16 hours a week and he's so over worked, he's so tired. "Anything else Robin?" is the constant refrain. He doesn't want to be there and it shows. He's cashed out and only the sycophants remain loyal as he takes money out of their pockets. Once the contract is up he's off to Long Island with is hot wife, who will dump him when he gets old and grumpy, and the bulldog. Sad ending to a once brilliant talent. Sound familiar?

No doubt- any time there is big news when Howard is on vacation, I feel kind of lost. Especially with the 2 week vacations! Waaay too long!

  • HorseFaceBeth 2 years ago

Howard was on the air only 159 days last year out of 260 traditional work days. That translates to 61%. When a person is off nearly 40% of work days, it's no surprise that many events are missed. Howard gets upset at the chorus of articles being written about his loss of relevance, how is he surprised, for a radio personality to be relevant they need to be on the air.

  • BethsADope 2 years ago

You captioned the picture above, "While Howard Stern relaxes, the world waits...". No one is waiting, I've listened to the Stern show for over fifteen years but I'm not waiting breathlessly for Howard's opinion on any of these events, I've listened to other radio shows and heard opinions and reaction that were current and up to the minute. Who want's to hear what Howard has to say 20 days later, it's old and tired like Howard's show has become.

Leave Imus alone ! He needs these two weeks to help Deadra write her book about dogs ! Being an ex-ames catolog model she needs all the help she can get ! By the way if you really want to know more about dogs watch the dog whisperer on Nat-Geo for free .

  • Low Pitch Jesse 2 years ago

Whats really bad is seeing Beth turn Howard into everything he has always hated. He used to rip on Imus and his wife Deeerdreaa, for everything the Ames catalog model is now doing. Using HIS fame to basically become a fringe wannabe celebrity, excalty like Deaeredrea Imus. But us fans are screaming into the wind. A very solemn bababooey to you all.

Stern could care less about all these deaths...he is laughing in the hamptons while f**king a horse...

  • Proscuitto Hands Paulie 2 years ago

Giving his opinion on anything other than the latest crappy testosterone-reducing reality show or whatever his beloved Yoko ... er, Beth is wearing that day is the only stuff on his mind today and the last two weeks. I'm sure he's dreading having to come back to work, such as it is.

    Howard, they were guffawing....

Howard's out of the office, out of touch and out of the spotlight. No one cares what he has to say two weeks later, the world moves on. Maybe he can have a D-list guest on and ask them if they orgy and do hash oil. What used to be edgy is now sad and dated.

    Howard, I was ossified.

  • jane 2 years ago

to say i'm dissapointed about this extended vacation would be an understatment. it's rediculously too long. the show has gotten worse (except for the Booey pitch, which was some of the funniest stuff i've ever heard!) Arty is annoying as f***. he was way more funny when he was using. he won't SHUT UP now, and the endless plugs at the end of the show....i was stupid to think MAYBE they'd come back a week early. the history of Howard Stern part 1000 is totally boring. i COUNT on listening to their spin of current events. it's what i'm paying for.
    thanx alot HS

I was a HS listener for years, although I now resent paying for this service. I don't want to pay for reruns and repeats. I think HS will singlehandedly be the demise of sirius radio. He will just take the money and run when his contract is up. He never brought over the subscribers he thought would follow. Now its vacation after vacation and we get stale old shows I don't think anyone is listening. I'm just gonna bale out - this is not what I want to pay for. The worst is HS doesnt give a damn. He will take his 10 weeks off at his audience's expense. Buh - by HS!!

  • Mrs Ed 2 years ago

Hampton Howie's a shell of the leading edge broadcaster he once was thanks to psychological over-analysis and a bent-knee, horse-shaped faced empty-headed model. So there's not much reason to think he'd have anything insightful or pithy to add even if he was here, aside from "anything else Robin?"

  • Oy vay 2 years ago

All you haters!! You'll all listen to Howard on Monday and will do so until he retires. All radio and Tv personalities get tons of time off every year, but we care most about Howard, so it annoys us off when he's away. MJ is still in the news everywhere so it won't be much of a stretch to talk about his death.

    Howard still rules............

Let's not forget... before the merger of the two companies, XM had managed to get more subscribers without Howard Stern than Sirius did with him.

Howard wasn't big enough to beat XM, but it looks like he'll be just big enough to kill both companies.

I agree with everyone Sable below and the others. This stinks. We subscribe to get reruns of reruns?? 10 weeks is ludicrous. OK, we all need a vacation but this is not a think for a radio host to take all this time off. CMon howard, get with the program.

Howard's recap of all of Beth's red carpet adventures over these last two weeks should prove to be far more riveting commentary than anything he would've said about Michael Jackson this week.

I can hardly wait. I'm fit to bust with the anticipation. Did she go with the Monolos? The Chanel bag? A polo match? A benefit for the NSAL and/or the Hamptons Wildlife Rescue Center?

The world waits with bated breath.

This article was posted on a message board from a competing radio show, from two fa,ggot DJ's on XM . These posts are made by pimply twenty somethings that are very lonely boys.

Howard still rules... He did take off his usual two week summer vacation, and man we did miss some compelling radio...

Those two DJs on XM are going to be moving into Howie's studio next year after Howie heads off to the nursing home, so you better get used to them.

  • Fla Flooey pondering 2 years ago

Is there a reason Artie now constantly yells into the microphone? Is there a reason Howard thinks he needs to put down regular people that eat at Applebees? Howard has turned into a snob. Artie has went from funny to dummy.

Two DJs? Are you talking about OA? They're like two years younger than Howard, genius and 1/100th the talent.

  • A Fan 2 years ago

You should do an expose on NSAL, just do a search on NSAL complaints.

Major media won't touch this phony charity because most of them are on the board or NSAL party invitees.

Could be a big story to break if you could get the goods on this poorly run scam of a charity and shove it in their faces until major media is forced to pick it up.

    I sense Pulitzer!
