Howard Stern will sit on the panel tonight at the 2013 finale of "America's Got Talent." And he'll tell the whole world what an amazing show it is. And he'll tout the "million dollar prize" the winner is set to walk away with. But Howard Stern Show listeners and fans may feel something a little funky in their stomachs tonight, if they're lucid enough to remember three years ago when Stern exposed "AGT" for their completely bogus "million dollar prize."
Almost exactly three years ago, Stern dedicated a good portion of his morning radio show to the scam that is the "AGT" million dollar prize. When singer Michael Grimm took home the title in 2010, Howard Stern had this to say on his Sirius XM broadcast:
"You know, I was reading the fine print at the end of that show. I think it's one of those shows where they do payouts of like forty thousand a year for like forty years or something?"
Stern didn't stop there. He even gave a straight up 'F--- You' to NBC for their false advertising:
"F--- you NBC," said Howard Stern when her heard the real stats. "And Nick Cannon's on there going 'This is the biggest contest prize of any on TV. F--- you NBC." Read the 2010 story here
To say Stern has changed his tune since his 2010 rant would be a gross understatement. Stern now sits on the panel weekly, touting "AGT's" "million dollar prize." Stern has stated multiple times on air that he chose to do the show because he honestly loves it.
Anyone who saw the final six "most talented people in the country" Wednesday night may have felt differently. It's not just the lack of talent on "America's Got Talent" that's so heartbreaking. It's seeing an American hero of truth (Stern) praising mediocrity that hurts worse than anything else.
