UPDATE 01/18/2012 - Mark Wahlberg clarifies: Howard Stern IS my cup of tea
Howard Stern is no stranger to being an outcast, but it still hurts to get dissed in the name of Jesus.
During a recent satellite radio broadcast, Stern revealed that Napoleon Dynamite star Jon Heder dodged an invitation to appear on the Howard Stern Show, even though he was already making appearances in the Sirius XM building. Heder is a practicing Mormon.
“I was like: ‘Gee, I’d love to have Napoleon Dynamite on the show," said Stern Wednesday. "Whether he’s doing the character or the guy who plays him. And Gary said he ran into him here at Sirius cause he was doing a bunch of promotion for this cartoon. And he went ‘Gee, I don’t think my publicist—I can’t do the Howard Stern Show without checking with my publicist,’ which was a nice way of saying he won’t do the show. Cause I heard he’s some kind of religious kid or something?"
Stern also vented over getting the cold shoulder from actor/producer Mark Wahlberg, who he used to regularly socialize with.
"You know who else flaked out on me?" said Stern. "It’s really weird—Marky Mark Wahlberg. He used to do our show, right?...In fact, Mark and I went out to dinner a couple of times. Like, we’ve actually socialized…This is years ago. And you know we haven’t been in touch for years…But, Gary said: ‘We’d love to have Mark and the show’ and the publicist goes ‘It’s not Mark’s cup of tea’. So, someone told me he went really religious...he had a wild life and the one thing he has to give up is me…’Don’t worry Jesus. I’m not going on the Howard Stern Show’. I mean, am I really that bad. And I mean, if you’re into Jesus you can’t do my show?”
Stern was raised Jewish and his wife Beth Ostrosky Stern is a practicing Catholic. On air, Stern generally refers to all religions as equally ridiculous.
