After nearly a week of controversy over the use of the word "retard" by prominent figures in politics and media, Stern reflexively called Sarah Palin a "retard" during the news portion of Wednesday morning's Howard Stern Show broadcast. Stern made the retarded comment in response to a story about Palin writing rudimentary prompts for her Tea Party keynote speech on the palm of her hand.
"What a retard that Sarah Palin is," Howard Stern chimed in drily after Robin Quivers' Wednesday morning news segment. "She a hack--a low-level type. An anti-intellectual. Her main appeal to people seems to be: 'I'm an idiot and you're an idiot' and aren't you sick of all these smart people?"

Sarah Palin recently called for the resignation of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel after he stated that those opposed to reforming the American health care system were f---ing retarded."
Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh also used the "retard" during his syndicated radio broadcast last Wednesday while discussing the Rahm Emmanuel flap: "Our politically correct society is acting like some giant insult's taken place by calling a bunch of people who are retards, retards. I'm not going to apologize for it," said Limbaugh. Sarah Palin has refused to condemn Limbaugh's statement.
