Howard Stern called New York gubernatorial candidate Jimmy McMillan of the "Rent is Too Damn High Party" the "breakout star" of Monday night's debate.

"The people I represent can't afford to pay their rent," said McMillan with the rhythm of a beatnik poet. "They're being laid off right now as I speak. They can't afford to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Listen--someone's child's stomach just growled. Did you hear it? You gotta listen like me."

Stern said that the fringe candidate actually fared better in the debate than Republican Carl Paladino, who has suffered gravely in recent polls due to his repeatedly negative statements about gay Americans.

McMillan presented a poetic, albeit simplistic platform by repeating his catch phrase "the rent is too damn high!" at the end of each of his statements and won the favor of the crowd, until frontrunner Andrew Cuomo eventually had to hop on board himself:
"I'm with Jimmy," said Cuomo near the end of the debate. "The rent IS too damn high."
Stern says he is considering voting for McMillan in the upcoming election.
