On April 4, 2014, “America’s Got Talent” held auditions at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The show’s judges (Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B) were there, and so was host Nick Cannon. “America's Got Talent,” NBC’s top-rated summer series, returns in 2014 with performers from across the country ready to compete in the blockbuster reality show’s ninth season, which premieres on May 27, 2014.

With the talent search open to acts of all ages, “America's Got Talent” has brought the variety format back to the forefront of American culture by showcasing unique performers from across the country. The show features a colorful array of singers, dancers, comedians, contortionists, impressionists, jugglers, magicians, ventriloquists and hopeful stars, all vying for their chance to win America's hearts and the $1 million prize. Here is what Stern said during a red-carpet interview at "America's Got Talent" Season 9 auditions in New York City.

What do you think about David Letterman's announcement that he is retiring from "The Late Show"?

I feel really old watching him retire. I'm very sad to see him go. He's terrific.

Do you want to replace David Letterman as host of "The Late Show"?

I want to go to sleep. I'm busy with "America's Got Talent." I'm busy with my morning radio show. Short of cleaning up with a broom here, I'm doing everything.

At the "America's Got Talent" auditions recently, you teased Heidi Klum about finding her next boyfriend from the show's talent pool ...

There were these contestants on who were dancers. They ranged from ages 10 to 20. I said, "Those guys are all too old for you, aren't they, Heidi?" She said, "Stop bringing up my dating!"

Anyone would go out with Heidi. Are you kidding? Who wouldn't want a woman with four children, right?
