The self-proclaimed “King of all Media,” Howard Stern mentioned last week to his listeners that he is “pretty sure” he will leave the sat caster when his five-year, $500 million contract expires at the end of this year.
Aside from the inconsistent reports floating everywhere that the shock-jock will remain with Sirius XM, or return to terrestrial radio, and even tinker around with television projects; no one really knows exactly what Howard Stern is up to, or where he will land.
Although, Stern says he is not leaving the radio business. According to Orbitcast, a website that follows the satellite radio industry, mentioned that Stern is “hinting towards a possible mobile application, and a low monthly fee.” Orbitcast also added that this was “some of the strongest language,” used by the famous shock jock when talking about his future plans.
Sources also report that Sirius XM, headquartered in New York City, is pushing to renew The Howard Stern Radio Show for another 5 years, but Stern mentions that a shorter deal would be best.
Furthermore, according to Inside Radio, “analysts say Sirius XM’s satellites wouldn’t suddenly fall out of the sky should Stern head for the exit door.” If Stern leaves the sat caster, Sirius XM may lose the bread, but will have peanut butter and jelly to live with.
Howard Stern said whatever decision he makes; he will let his listeners know first. So stay tuned!
