Howard Stern addresses fans outraged over his vacation schedule

Howard Stern addressed critics of his new reduced live show schedule head on Monday morning during the Howard Stern Show's first live broadcast of August.

Stern has been taking major flack from fans enraged about his decision to cut back to alternating 3 and 4 day live show weeks. Monday, Stern played audio of voicemail messages from outraged fans on air and took live calls from others threatening to cancel their Sirius XM subscriptions.

“Then you gotta cancel your service," Stern replied to a caller frustrated by the lack of live content. "I will never rip you off. If you feel dissatisfied with the amount of shows I’m doing you should absolutely leave the company and leave the service….I will always be honest with my fans...I hope you stay with us, but if you don’t c’est la vie.”

In spite of Monday's statements, the King of All Media has said in the past that his live show schedule, he recently stated that he will "never" release his live show schedule because "then you have to tune in every day and see if I'm here."

Howard Stern's reduced live show schedule is part of his new five year contract with Sirius XM. Stern reminded ungrateful fans that the alternative was for him to retire altogether.

“It was either leave or do a less intense schedule," Stern told the caller. "I’ve been getting up at 4 in the morning for 40 years and I was tired."

Howard Stern is estimated to be scheduled for about 140 live shows per year with Sirius XM through 2015.
