Howard Gardners's multiple intelligences: naturalistic intelligence

Naturalistic Intelligence was not part of the original list of intelligences but was added later by Howard Gardner because of much talk among his peers concerning people who are better with animals and nature than anything else.

When traveling the campus at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville you would find those with high levels of naturalistic intelligence in the agriculture, wildlife, and veterinary medicine departments.

Those with naturalistic intelligence are scientific minded and look for connections with things. They like to categorize things by common traits and consider ecological issues a high priority. They are also proficient at finding subtle differences in the meaning of things.

Those with high levels of naturalistic intelligence make sense out of data by putting it in classifications and hierarchies.

Those with naturalistic intelligence could be found in a garden or working to preserve national parks. The trails through the Smoky Mountains are filled with those with naturalistic intelligence as well as those watching over the mountains.

Animals are important to those with naturalistic intelligence. They enjoy studying biology, botany, and/or zoology.

Finally, those with naturalistic intelligence believe in and practice recycling.

Everyone has every intelligence. Some intelligences are more prominent than others. To make learning easier and career paths more attainable one should know their intelligences and the amount of each intelligence. To see the tests check out all of the tests in the list on this page.
