An August 23, 2013 story on CNN reported on how Howard Dean , former governor of Vermont, former chair of the Democratic National Committee, and once and possibly future candidate for president of the United States, slammed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for the latter’s campaign to defund Obamacare. He called Cruz and others who want to cut funding for the health care reform bill, "irresponsible" and "petty, radical-right people." He also suggested that Cruz was placing his own interests ahead of those of the United States.
Dean also suggested that if Cruz and his allies kept it up, the Democrats might retake the House in 2014. This is not the first time Dean has gone after Cruz over the Obamacare defund effort.
Speculation has arisen that Dean might challenge Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016. Cruz has been often mentioned as a possible Republican nominee. Dean’s attack on Cruz shows that, if nothing else, presidential debates between the two would be exciting indeed. Thus far, however, neither man is admitting to harboring presidential ambitions.
