President Obama makes big promises in his new health care proposal, but what does it mean for Kansas City residents?
President Obama’s health care website states “Lowering health care costs and expanding health insurance coverage will require additional revenue. The reserve fund is financed by a combination of rebalancing the tax code so that the wealthiest pay…Families with incomes over $250,000”.
It is estimated that 60% to 80% of all new jobs are created by small business. The owners of these businesses very likely are the exact people the president wants to raise taxes on. With Kansas City’s unemployment currently hovering at 8%, we need more jobs created, but with business owners being taxed even HIGHER, the money may not be available for them to do so.
In a speech to the American Medical Association, President Obama
stated:
…no matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.
The truth is, with taxes raised on the business owners, the burden of carrying health care coverage for all employees becomes harder to continue. With a new, public option, proprietors may find a way to recoup the new taxes by no longer offering a health care option, forcing the employees to either pay for it on their own or sign up for the government run plan. Obama's promise of everyone being able to keep their own health care plan and/or doctor is not possible. Period..JPG)
Perhaps the government plan is a great option. Lower cost, better care, what could go wrong? Canada offers outstanding benefits to their citizens and we should follow suit.
It is true the Canada has a public health care system, but it’s not all roses and sunshine.
- -The average wait time in Ontario for pediatric surgery is 7.5 months.
- -90% of patients who went to a major teaching hospital emergency room were seen within 9 hours.
- -More than 4 million people (12%) don't have access to a family doctor.
- -In BC, along with taxes, there is an additional monthly premium for health care. As much as $108/month.
Let’s also focus on the past behaviors of government run programs/businesses.
- -Amtrak hasn’t made a profit in 40 years.
- -GM has gone bankrupt despite being bailed out with tax dollars.
- -Have you been to the DMV?
- -Anyone remember FEMA? Slow response equals catastrophe.
- -Walter Reed Hospital - If this is how the government treats our HEROES, how are they going to treat regular citizens?
Wednesday, June 24th, President Obama will be laying out his plan to "reform health care" without opposing voices. No real questions will be asked and ABC has even told the RNC they will not be able to buy air-time to respond. Rallies are being held all over the country, including in Kansas City. All in all, government run health care is a scary proposition. Is IRS compassion and Post Office efficiency really what you want in your doctor’s office?
