How to wear pleats

The doors only opened last Saturday, but the colors inside are already overflowing.  Babette is the newest addition to Caddy’s Alley in Georgetown.  A store, whose origination came from San Francisco, has spread its sites on Washington, DC with their famous pleating fashions.

Babette Pinsky began designing out of Oakland, California, after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and wanted to leverage an ancient Greek pleating process to create travel friendly, textured and body complimentary fashions for women.  Pleating is time consuming and requires a unique eye to ensure each type of pleat will fall gracefully on the body.    Babette’s fabrics actually go through a baking process to ensure the pleats are secure.

All the cloths are made in the US with most of the fabrics coming from Japan and Europe.  Every 15 days, a new collection arrives in the store.  DC is amongst the eight Babette stores in the country with a truck show opening on April 14th.

The spring collection lines the racks today with lightweight fabrics, a seasonal raincoat, spring colored tops and skirts and a few grays for the in-between weather days.
