Are your social media activities boosting your seo or search engine optimization? While it is likely that any social media activities with which you are engaged are contributing to your seo, many people are not taking full advantage of it or do they really understand how to make social media contribute to seo. Here are some ways that your social media activities can help with your rankings and search engine visibility and traffic.
1. Change the url of your facebook profile to facebook.com/yourname or any keyword that you want to include. Your facebook profile with the exception of a limited amount of information is not visible on the search engines and neither are your comments or other content so it is important that at least your profile url contains your name or a keyword.
2. Create a facebook fan page for your business and use some of your keywords in the name. Fan pages on facebook are public and listed in the search engines and they have a tendency to rank very well. Make sure that you also keep the information on that page updated and that you add to it at least every couple of weeks.
3. Use twitter to your full advantage. All of the tweets you send as well as your profile appear in the search engines. The keywords you use in your profile and in your tweets will be connected to you and will not only influence seo but they will also effect who finds and follows you.
4. Use Squidoo. When it comes to seo, Squidoo is the best social media site for this. You can create lenses for any keyword you want and in many cases your lens will out rank your website in the search engines. Done well a Squidoo lens can also improve the visibility of your other social media sites.
5. Create an optimized profile on Linkedin and MySpace. Even if you don't use these sites as frequently, you should at least have them because of their high seo rankings and public profile visibility.
