Here’s the scenario: It’s 4:45 p.m.; you’re at your office multitasking the last of several have-to-get-outs, and your cell phone rings – it’s your child wanting to know if you are still going to the show to see the latest version of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
You’ve watched several of the earlier “X-Men” TV shows with your son and they were age appropriate at the time. However, you recently saw a promotional poster for the film and it looked dark and scary. But, you also heard the film was rated PG-13 and you know your son is very mature and responsible for a13-year-old. Still, you’re not sure on this one. So, what do you do?
Before you shut down your computer, you quickly click-on Common Sense Media and voila – you get your answer. Not only is the rating verified for numerous categories of content including: violence; sex; language; consumerism; drinking/drugs/smoking and message/role models, but you get a good sense of storyline and a clip of the film to boot.
You can also go further and find appropriate substitutes if your decision is to nix the film.
You can weigh-in on subjects plus find tips and reasons for your decision that can be shared with your family.
