When choosing country wedding or western wedding decor, adding a barrel or two can really add to the rustic charm of your reception. Barrels can be used in many ways from displaying flower arrangements or photos to announcing table seating arrangements and more.

Whether you paint the barrels in your wedding color scheme or leave them to their natural wood state, barrels can make a lovely accent to your country wedding. Read through the ideas for wedding reception decor using barrels below and start creating the wedding you’ve always dreamed of.

Photo display

Dot the barrel with decorative push pins. Then frame photos with scrapbook paper or lace, attach a ribbon and hang the pictures from the push pins. Or, you can forgo the scrapbook paper and lace and just tack pictures around the barrel.

Another way to use a barrel for wedding photo display is to lay a square block of wood across the barrel to create a table top.

Wedding signature gift

Instead of having guests sign a guest book or framed print, signatures and well-wishes on a barrel creates a usable memory of your wedding day. Have guests sign the barrel as they come in, then put a layer of clear lacquer over it to preserve the memories and use it for a table or other accent piece in your home.

Signage

A barrel can also be used to point guests in a certain direction or make an announcement. For instance, the bride and groom’s names or last name and wedding date can be painted on the side of the barrel or by painting arrows on the barrel, you can direct guests with signs such as “dancing this way” or “get your drinks and join the party.”

Table seating arrangements

Cards bearing guests names and table number can be tacked to the barrel or arranged across several barrel tops.

Flower arrangements

A large flower arrangement can be displayed in a barrel by using it like a planter, setting flowers on top, or drilling holes in the sides and sticking the stems through.

Depending on your level of skill with crafts or woodworking, there are unlimited possibilities for using barrels as part of your country wedding decor. Though fairly simply ideas were shared here, barrels can also be used as light shades, wedding cards containers, beverage kegs and more.
