It had been a long time since I had been into a Salvation Army or second-hand shop, but lack of funds between jobs and being in school, caused me to re-visit such establishments...and I've since been spoiled -- immensely!
I wandered into a Salvation Army on a Friday. I was half-heartedly thinking I might find something, anything that might be useful in a business situation. That was over three years ago and I still visit different, local, Salvation Army stores and will wander into second-hand stores whenever I come across one. Why?
Well, Friday's happen to be 5 - for - $5 days (if you have the correct color tag) and I walked out of that store (over three years ago) with a pair of khaki capri's, an over-jacket/blazer, an unworn button-up blouse, a simple cotton shirt (suitable for work or with jeans) and a pretty summer dress (suitable for a backyard b-b-q or for an office, depending on accessories) for a whopping total of $5.30 -- how can one beat that?!
Since then, I've found a dressy $10 leather jacket, some Naturalizer shoes for $10 and numerous shirts, blouses, slacks, skirts and dresses to the extent that even 50% - 70% end-of-season sales in department stores seem outrageously over-priced! PLUS -- I'm re-using items which could have ended up in a landfill.
Go Green! Go Second-Hand! It helps to focus on what you're looking for say, for instance, "I just need slacks right now". That will help you get in and out of the bigger stores in a more manageable amount of time. Just check it out sometime! Going green with one's wardrobe is cheap, easy, fun, satisfying and good for our planet.
