Heather Leigh

Though the kids have returned to school here in Florida, temperatures are still extremely hot. Temperatures will remain high throughout the remainder of August and into the early weeks of September. However, this is one of the best times to go visit Walt Disney World. With schools returning, the crowd levels at the parks are starting dwindle, making it possible to see and do just about everything on your Disney wish list.

Here are some tips to help keep cool when visiting the theme parks and resorts during the hotter months of the year:

Dress appropriately

Wear clothing that is lightweight and dries fast (just in case you choose to ride a water attraction at the parks). Avoid wearing dark colors at the parks. This will attract the heat, making you feel hotter. Other items to consider wearing and bringing with you to the parks include a hat (with a brim), personal spritzers, washcloth to wet down and personal clip-on fans.

Park times

Make plans to visit the parks early in the morning and later in the evening. If possible, avoid spending time in the parks during the middle of the day. This is the perfect time to explore your resort, have lunch or spend time at the pool.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated. To help save money, consider brining a refillable bottle that you can fill up at water fountains. Brita bottles will filter fountain water and save you money from having to purchase high-priced bottles of water.

Air conditioning

Find an attraction, restaurant or other place within the parks where you can relax in the cool air conditioning.

Water attractions

Get yourself wet on one of the many water attractions at the parks. Here are some of the water attractions to take advantage of on a hot day.

Magic Kingdom

  • Splash Mountain
  • Cool Scanner in Tomorrowland
  • Tiki’s in Adventureland

  • Cool misters at Ellen’s Energy Adventure
  • Test Track’s Cool Wash

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • Umbrella Prop near the backlot area
  • Multiple other misters throughout the park

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

  • Kali River Rapids
  • Multiple other misters throughout the park

So the next time you are hesitating visiting the Disney parks, solely because temperatures are high, take these stay cool tips with. The parks are just as enjoyable when hot as they are when it is cooler. There is always a way to cool off and refresh yourself to enjoy the remainder of the day.

Happy vacationing!
