How to spend over a thousand dollars on The Beatles on 09-09-09

I picked the wrong time to become a Beatles fan.  In a few days, the latest revival and marketing blitz of the world's biggest band (despite not having recorded any new material as a group since 1969) will culminate in what might be one of the biggest days in entertainment history.  And in my infinite wisdom, I chose to watch The Beatles: Love show a few months earlier, and really like it.

Anyways, here's a list of what Beatles fans will probably end up buying on Wednesday. This list is assuming that they don't have any of the hardware and are just diving in...

The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition ($249.99) - The bundle includes one set of Beatles branded-drums, a replica Hofner bass guitar controller, one mic, and the game itself.  If you need a Wii (the soccer mom and football dad's system of choice), that's another $249.99.  And if you really want the whole Beatles experience, you need to buy two more microphones ($39.96; it's for the three-part harmonies) and the Gretsch Duo-Jet ($99.99) and Rickenbacker 325 ($99.99) replicas as well.

The Beatles In Mono box set ($299.99) - So fans and audiophiles claim that the only way to listen to early Beatles records is in mono.  Without collecting old and very expensive vinyls, this is the only way to get that experience.  Cool, I guess, but hopefully that rumor that Beatles is finally coming to iTunes might be true this time.  For a better understanding of why Beatles in Mono is better than Beatles in Stereo (a slightly cheaper box set), click here.

The new iPod Touch (let's assume the prices still range from $229.99 to $399.99) - Now if the Beatles-iTunes rumor comes to be, then you're going to need a home for songs you just bought.  The big rumor going on for months now is that the next iteration of the iPod Touch will include a camera and microphone, so now would be the best time to pick up the iPod Touch for those who want something close to the iPhone experience, but without the part where you have to sign your soul away to AT&T for two years at a time none of the contracts.

Total money spent on 09-09-09: at least $1269.90 (tax not included)

Great outline on what all folks can acquire, Juan. The hard core Beatle fans will ALWAYS find something to buy, no matter what. And here's a suggestion on something else they can spend money on too: www.justimaginejohn.com
It will be a great show.

Are you serious? Why would you count the ipod towards money spent on "The Beatles". Also, the mono box set doesn't cost $300. It could have been had for $230 or so, but I believe they are sold out in most locations. Stereo box sets are $179 or so. I think my high school newspaper is looking for a new entertainment columnist, you'd fit in really well.

Jake - The idea behind the post was that it was for people who don't have any of the items above, not for the tech-savvy high school kid such as yourself. I hope you can forgive me for taking a look at the MSRP of the box set and assuming that's what it will sell for. Oh, and I only write for high schools where the median income of the parents is above $372,950. Let me know if you go to one. Thanks...
