If you've ever wanted to take a quick iPhone screenshot, whether it is send the picture of an app to a friend or to record your high score in a game for everyone to see, Apple has made it quite easy. And the screenshots are stored with your photos in the camera roll, so it is easy to get at them and email them to a friend.
To take an iPhone screenshot, simply press the sleep button at the top of the iPhone 3GS and the home button at the same time. Not sure where these buttons are located on your iPhone? This diagram will point them out:

Happy screenshotting!

Now I DO -
Thanks 2 U!
I tried this, but I only get the 'switch off' bar appearing.
@Lila: The trick is that the iPhone doesn't require you to hold one button and press the other; it only requires that both be pressed simultaneously. So you can either hold home and press sleep, hold sleep and press home, or push both at the same moment!
Very cool tip, thanks
I've been using this method for screenshots for as long as I can remember, but then yesterday it just stopped working! :/ anyone had the same problem and/or ideas for me to remedy this?
Thanks
yea me too..it was working then I can't take pics of my screen anymore. Is it cause I have lots of pics on my phone? or cause I got several apps on photo taking? I loaded up a camera app that allows me to zoom in.
Why is this doing this? I need to be able to take pic of texts with date, time and whom from to send to someone and can't.
It won't work at all on my 3G. Have you gotten a solution?
Having the Same problem with it Znot working anymore ... Ugh

Thanks for the tip!!!! I have the 1st gen iPhone and not sure it would work but it did!
Thanks this worked perfectly!!!!!!
awesome!!!
Great tip
Tried this with my 3GS with FW 3.1.2, it made the shutter sound and when I went to my pictures, next to where it says "camera roll", I could see the thumb of the picture that I had just taken. But when I went into my camera roll, it wasn't in there. I tried it a few more times with the same result. Any ideas?
Thank you for this hint & instruction

I have the same problem as Lila, just getting the "slide to power off" option, no screenshot :(
OK - I managed to do this accidentally (randomly saw it in my camera roll) and I was wondering how I'd managed it... Now I know! Nice feature!
Thanks so much
I thought you needed an app
lol
if it isn't working you have to press down harder on the home button and make sure you are pushing them both at the same time...
IT NEVER EVER WORKS!!!! So annoying
I had that same problem (getting the "slide to power off" screen). Don't hold the buttons, just press the home button, then the sleep button and let go.
Cool this works perfectly!
@Everybody who's complained...
Just make sure you press them at exactly the same time or this won't work!
