Many people with Roadrunner email accounts experience significant frustration in trying to set up Roadrunner email on an iPhone, iPad or Android phone.
On a Blackberry, it's just a matter of accessing Blackberry Internet Service and entering the email address and password. On an iPhone, iPad or Android device, it's more complicated. Some people have even resorted to having their Roadrunner email forwarded to their Gmail accounts in order to access it on their phones.
Fortunately, the following instructions should allow you to get Roadrunner email on your smart phone. These instructions use the Raleigh area's nc.rr.com as an example. However, I've also included some tips for adapting these steps to fit almost any area's Roadrunner service.
In case you're asked for your username at some point that I haven't listed in the steps, you need to enter your entire Roadrunner email address (username@nc.rr.com).
On an iPhone or iPad, select Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars. On an Android phone, select Email.
Select Add Mail Account or New Account.
Select Other for the type of account.
Enter the email address when prompted (username@nc.rr.com) and the password.
If given the option, uncheck Automatically Configure Account, since this will usually fail.
If prompted for a description, enter Roadrunner Mail and select Next.
Select POP for the type of email server and touch Next.
For the incoming mail server host, enter pop-server.nc.rr.com and touch Next.
Enter 110 for the port number if it's not already entered, and touch Next.
If prompted, uncheck secure server or SSL.
For the outgoing mail server host, enter mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com and, if prompted, enter 25 for the port number. Uncheck secure server or SSL if you're given the option.
Note: For some devices, the SMTP port number may need to be changed to 587, but try 25 first to see if it works. Some phones may also require that you tap Advanced and uncheck Verify Certificate.
If you are not in the Raleigh area, in the incoming mail server section, change the "nc" part to whatever you see in your Roadrunner email address. For example, in the N.C. Triad area (Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point), the incoming mail server would be pop-server.triad.rr.com. If that doesn't work, you might also try pop-server.roadrunner.com.
I've made some generalizations in these instructions in an attempt to cover as many different devices as possible. However, if you still can't get your Roadrunner email working on your phone, please comment below, and I'll try to help you.
