How to set the iPhone quiet mode to vibrate only

The iPhone 3GS

One of the neat features of the iPhone is the ease of setting it to vibrate only. In fact, the ease of flipping the switch to iPhone quiet mode can sometimes throw a new iPhone owner for a loop. Where'd the sound go? How do I flip it back on?

Rather than have the quiet mode buried in some menu or setting, the iPhone has a physical switch that allows you to go into vibrate only mode or come out of quiet mode without digging around in the interface.

How to set the iPhone to vibrate only:

On the left side of the iPhone, just above the volume buttons, is a small switch. Setting the iPhone to vibrate only mode is as simple as flipping this switch. You'll know you've set it to quiet mode because the iPhone will vibrate for a second and the switch will show a little red dot.

To get out of quiet mode, simply flip the switch again, covering the little red dot.

The ease of getting in and out of the iPhone quiet mode is great when you are in a movie theater or watching a dance recital and forgot to put it in vibrate only mode. You can easily quiet the iPhone by reaching into your pocket and flipping the switch without even looking at the phone.
