How to send free text messages on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad

Send free text messages on the iPhone with textPlus

Do you want to send free text messages on your iPhone? Do you want to get rid of that text messaging plan? What if I told you there's an app for that?

You won't believe how simple it is to send free text messages on the iPhone. Simply download textPlus. And there's more than just the ability to send free text messages on your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can create group conversations to text multiple people at once and even set up private or public communities for easy texting. This is great for friends and families that want to easily stay in touch with text messaging. You can even disable text messaging on your iPhone and send free text messages through textPlus instead.

And the neat thing is that textPlus will work on the upcoming Apple iPad. Yep. I said it. You'll be able to send free text messages on your shiny new iPad. How cool is that?

How to send free text messages on your iPhone

Want to see just how simple it is? Here are the directions for sending a text message using the textPlus app:

  1. Download textPlus from the iPhone app store.
  2. Once you launch the application, it will ask you to type in your name. This is what other people will see when you send a text message, so make it something that your friends will recognize as you. (Your real name would do fine, but feel free to type in "Sneaky Pete" or something similar.)
  3. You should be taken straight to the New Conversation page. If you aren't, click on the pencil and paper icon on the top right of the screen.
  4. Choose an iPhone contact or enter a phone number manually.
  5. Once a contact is chosen, tap the compose message button.
  6. Start typing. Don't know what to say? Try: "Just taking my free texting iPhone app out for a spin."
  7. Tap the send button and wait, or just exit the program knowing that you'll get a push notification when your friend finally decides to reply.

Yep. It's that simple.
