There is power in silence; all mommies know this. It is within the quiet we hear our own thoughts, concentrate on tasks at hand, or simply read a book. In silence we can tackle seemingly mountainous tasks. When we have toddlers, silence can be scary. So, yes, silence is powerful, but generally fleeting --especially for parents. If one ponders how to relieve stress, the first thought that comes to mind is not usually silence --but it should. WebMD describes meditation as, "A simple fast way to reduce stress".
The act of meditation can help one feel a sense of calm. Parents understand how important this is to cope with daily stresses. As well as relieving stress, WebMD points out that research suggests meditation can help with anxiety, depression, high-blood pressure, pain, sleep problems, etc.
Different types of meditation include: guided, matra, mindfullness, qi gong, tai chi, transcendental and yoga.
Meditation also offers a way to relieve stress through natural means, and without the side-effects of prescription medication. It can be done at home, or just about anywhere you can find a moment of silence.
Remember to talk to your doctor about whether meditation is a good way for you to relieve stress.
