How to recycle real Christmas Trees in Las Vegas

See also

Did you know that there is a Southern Nevada Christmas Tree Recycling Committee?

The committee is a joint effort of government agencies such as UNCE, volunteers and business entities including the Springs Preserve.

Every year between December 26 and January 15 over twenty different drop-off sites are designated for the recycling program.

Last year about 15,000 trees were collected and turned into mulch. The mulch is then used in public gardens and parks around the Vegas Valley.

There are estimated to be about 250,000 fresh cut Christmas trees brought into the Vegas Valley for sale each year. That is an astounding number of trees with the potential to improve our desert soils and public spaces.

There are no fees charged for this service. The only requirement is that all non-organic materials be removed from the trees before drop off. Remove all all metal, wires and ornaments that could damage the chipper or contaminate the mulch.

Trees that have been sprayed with flocking are not suitable for recycling.

Most Lowes locations are drop off sites. For a list and addresses of all drop sites click on this Springs Preserve website .
