I work at an elementary school, and I have seen a child in the nurses office every single time I walk by. Their is always someone going home sick. The flu is very common this time of year. I have also heard on the news some people also have the H1N1 flu as well. There is one possible thing you can do that does protect to MOST flu viruses and not all, is to get a flu shot. Their are also some other things you can do to protect you and your family from the flu and other viruses. You can start when your young child and keeping them healthy and clean.
Here are some keys to help your young child with hygiene, and keeping them clean and how to protect them getting sick.
1.Make sure your child gets 8 hours of sleep it will protect them from getting sick. Make a nighttime routine such as story time.
2. You can also make bath time a bit more fun, but going to the store and picking out toys that are just for the bath. A bubble bath can also be more fun, and will have a great time with the bubbles.
3. Toddlers can start brushing their teeth, and ways to make it more fun. Singing to a 2 to 3 min song while they are brushing will make the time go more easier, and it will make the job more fun!!
4. Washing hands is the most important protection of illness and bacteria. Their is a fun and exciting way to teach children how to wash their hands the proper and most effective way. As they wash their hands sing the Happy Birthday song twice in a row. That will help them kill germs.
5. Also teaching them this these techniques as a fun way to protect themselves and not something have to do, but it can be something fun and their want to do it over again.
If you or your children do happen to get the flu. Its best to stay home and away from others to prevent spreading it around.
Make sure to wash your hands whenever you can
Get lots of rest, and take medication if prescribed.
You and your family can have a great and productive winter season.
