In the last two articles, the raw food diet was introduced and explained. Most readers that have shown interest had too many questions to answer in one article. The last article discussed what to expect on this diet. This article will give you step by step instructions on how to begin this challenge. Keep in mind that preparation will reduce stress in any type of situation.
Step 1: Is this diet right for you?
It is amazing that you are willing to take control of your life with this radical diet. However, keep in mind your health and environmental restrictions. Consult with your doctor before doing any major changes. It’s also not suggested to start this diet while pregnant or nursing. During this challenge your body will go through a lot of changes and stress. It’s better to slowly add a healthier lifestyle than to dramatically changing yours and putting your child at risk. Also, if for some reason you’re in an area where you cannot get fresh produce or your parents can’t afford to buy extra food for you, it’s okay. Make do with what you have.
Step 2: How many calories?
Track how much food you consume in a day and a week. Look up how many calories you should be eating. As Americas, people tend to over eat or as dieters people tend to under eat. Think of your body as a flower. Flowers need water, but if that water is not good for them, they will not grow properly. The same thing happens in your body. When on this diet people think they should just have an orange and a banana as breakfast. That is absolutely wrong. Fruit and veggies are by nature lower in calories than processed food. The calories that fruit and veggies have are good for you. Every day you should get to the goal calorie intake but because of this unique diet, you are allowed to go over that intake with more fruits and veggies. Your body knows what to do when given what it needs.
Step 3: What is your budget?
It’s a good idea to set money aside for this diet. Organic food is more expensive than processed food but the quality of the food is so much better. Everything you eat should be organic but if not that is perfectly okay. Keep in mind that because you are buying fresh food, it will not last long. You will most likely go to the store once a week. A great way to save money and still have delicious food is buying in bulk. Going to stores like BJ’s, Sam’s club and Costco will save you a lot of money and time.
Step 4: Write your meal plan.
Having a meal plan is a great way to stay on budget, fight cravings, maintain calories and show the world your dedication. You should have three large meals and two to four snacks a day. Eating this way will keep metabolism up and give you energy throughout the day. If eating a fully raw diet for 30 days is too much for you, that’s okay. Only half of your meals daily need to be raw in order for your body to function properly. You can also give yourself one or two days in the week for a cheat day.
Step 5: Commit.
The bottom line is that this is your body. You are in complete control of the way you feel. Whatever your reasons for doing this diet, keep it in the back of your head. The point is that you are trying to better yourself. You will feel angry, you will feel temptation but it’s times like this when you need to forget what you feel and remember what you deserve. You deserve a healthy lifestyle.
