How to prepare for a garage sale

If you have a lot of clutter the best way to get rid of it is to have a garage sale. You will turn the things you are no longer using into some extra cash and you’ll give them a new lease on life because they won’t be headed for the trash but they will be used by someone else.

The following are some great tips on how to prepare for a garage sale.

Figure Out What You are Going to Sell
If you are having a garage sale you need to start flagging things to be sold. There may be some dispute over what you can part with, especially if members of your family like to hold on to things, but you should clear this up long before the day.

Sort, Clean and Price
When you sort like items together it is easier for you to price items by comparing their condition and age and it also makes it easier for customers to choose what they want. All items need to be clean as well.

Advertise the Garage Sale
If you want to have a good turn-out you need to spread the word. You can use the daily classifieds, bulletins at church or nearby stores and even send emails to people on your list.

Have Volunteers Ready for the Day
If you have a fairly large amount of items to sell you should ask for some help. This way, customers won’t have to wait for attention and someone can be responsible for accepting cash and giving change.

Meet, Greet and Sell
Finally, all that’s left to do is to be sociable, enjoy yourself and get your items sold!
