Arrange furnishings to make the room inviting.
Living rooms and family rooms are the center of the home for entertaining and playing. When planning these rooms one needs to lay out the furnishings in order to creative comfortable areas to converse and watch media or a fireplace.
Area rugs need to be properly placed in order to fit within the decor properly.
Rugs are perfect for tying sofas and chairs together within one area. The area rug size should fit in the room so that sofas and chairs either are sitting on the rug or the rug sits immediately in front of them. Furniture should fit freely around the perimeters of the rug.
- If the furniture is on the rug then make sure that at least the front two legs are sitting on the rug.
- If the rug is placed in front of a sofa then it should be close enough that when guests are sitting their feet are on the rug.
Make sure that the rug is not too small that it appears as if a dot on the floor.
Area rugs come in a variety of standard sizes that are commonly found in stores to fit any size area.

Wool is the most traditional and sought out for its wear and durability. Nylon rugs will be less costly. Animal skins create beautiful rugs as well. Just like carpeting, area rugs can have a variety of pile heights from a low Berber to a high shag. Get a beautiful patterned area rug to use to add life to the furniture and to blend the decor. Pull colors from the rug into accessories such as pillows and window treatments.
Vacuum rugs often to keep them in good condition. Take care of the rugs and they will provide a lifetime of use. Take off the shoes and run your toes through the pile and never be afraid to dance!
