How to pick the perfect college roommate

Dorm life isn't easy; all those shared spaces and resources are enough to drive anyone up the wall. But what it really comes down to is the people you live with: your roommates. Sometimes they can be great and end up being your best friends for many years, but sometimes it can end in disaster.

If you have the option to choose (some universities pick for you, which isn't such a bad deal), then you should choose very very carefully. Identifying your own qualities are the first step to finding the right roomie for you. That way, you can match up compatible traits and not end up with a neat-freak when you're the messiest person on the planet. Are you an early bird or a night owl? What are you study habits like? How do you feel about having people over? Those are all high-stress situations that can tear a roommate relationship apart, so they should be clearly specified and agreed upon before move-in.
