How to organize your sewing or craft supplies

There are many ways to organize your sewing or craft room, and here are a few suggestions to keep your supplies and tools neat and ready to use.

Patterns, rulers, fabric, books, scraps and notions take up a lot of space and can quickly become messy and unorganized. Many quilters find that fabric storage is their biggest challenge. It is difficult to work productively when you have to search for the right tool or notion in a messy craft or hobby space.

fabric fat quarters and scraps:

Fat quarters can be stored in baskets and rolling drawers approximately 5" to 6" deep. There are also bags that can store up to 100 fat quarters at a time.

Scraps can be cut into strips and sorted by color in plastic bags to use in scrappy quilts

Patterns:

Quilt or garment patterns can be stored in filing cabinets, desk drawers, or magazine protectors on shelves

tools and notions:

There are hundreds of storage products and ideas available at office supply stores, home improvement stores, or online sewing sites such as Nancy's Notions.

Quilting rulers can be stored in a wall-mounted or desk-top organizer for easy accessibility

Thread spools can also be stored in plastic drawer-type organizers or wall-mounted to free up space. Free-standing units are handy to be able to view and select a particular thread color quickly.

With a little imagination and creativity, a messy sewing or craft space can be transformed into a neat and organized room that is a pleasure to work in!
