You have obviously noticed the array of glitter shoes for sale in every department store and boutique, especially the ruby red ones on display for Valentine’s Day. Save money and create your own DIY ruby red glitter shoes for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion.
DIY ruby red glitter shoes for Valentine’s Day are easy to create and much more affordable than purchasing a brand new pair when this fashion trend may fizzle out soon. And for those of you wondering, store bought glitter shoes loose just as much sparkle as the do-it-yourself kind.
Old white canvas shoes would work best, however, any color or fabric should suffice. If the heel is worn, the shoemaker can repair damaged rubber inexpensively.
Other than the shoes, only three other supplies are needed for DIY ruby red glitter shoes: glitter, in this case red for Valentine’s Day, however other colors may be used for special occasions such as weddings, sweet 16s and proms, fabric glue or Mod Podge and a sponge or regular paintbrush about one inch wide.
All of the above supplies needed to create your own DIY ruby red glitter shoes for Valentine’s Day can be purchased at any craft store such as Michaels located on Long Island in Levittown, Oceanside and Westbury among others.
There are two popular methods of creating DIY rube red glitter shoes for Valentine’s Day. You can either paint the fabric glue over the entire shoe, then pour the glitter over it until completely covered and let dry, or you can mix equal parts glitter and Mod Podge in a bowl and paint the mixture on. Either procedure will need to be done over a covered table, however when using the Mod Podge, crack a window as the odor can be distracting and protect the bowl with foil.
Results have been varied, however the Mod Podge procedure seems to be the favorable method amongst do-it-yourselfers, drying faster and having a stronger hold and finish for the DIY ruby red glitter shoes for Valentine’s Day or any holiday.
