Try this super quick and easy "Blow Art" craft any time you need to pull something out of your hat to entertain your kids on a rainy day – or simply because it’s really cool!
You probably already have everything you need for this at home anyways.
What you need:
- Paper
- Watercolors
- Paintbrushes
- Straws
Instructions:
- Using your brush, add different colored spots to your paper in a random design.
- Make sure you keep the paint liquid, so use enough water.
- Now take a straw, hold it close to the paper and blow.
And that’s all there is to it! You can blow from different directions to make the paint spread out more, or blow from right above the colored spots to make the paint “burst” into a cool design.
Let the different colors overlap here and there to create unique shapes, patterns or designs.
By using different length of straws, as well as thicker and thinner ones, you can vary the effect you get.
The same goes for the way you blow into your straw – a quick “burst” will give you a different look than a slow and steady blow.
Especially younger kids love this craft because it is so unpredictable and each time you create something totally new. Plus, even young kids hardly need any help with this, which makes it even more fun for them.
Extra Tip #1: Use a large sheet of paper and cover it with this “Blow Art” to create a unique wall painting.
Extra Tip #2: You can also use this technique to make your own wrapping paper. I bet nobody has ever seen wrapping paper like this!
