We all have goals for the upcoming New Year. How many times have you made New Year's resolutions with good intentions and quickly forgotten them or thrown them out the window? I for one, am guilty of this on too many occasions. So how can you make New Year's resolutions that you can keep? Simplify, simplify simplify!
First, start small. Make a resolution that is doable. For example, if your trying to exercise more start with the goal to exercise three times a week instead of every day. If you are transitioning to vegan, start by eliminating one thing, like dairy, from your diet instead of all animal products at once. This will make your goals seem more achievable and start you on a path to self improvement at a steady pace. Once the ball starts rolling, you will notice that you fell better and you will want to continue your journey. This is a great start to your goals instead of giving up like you would if your goals were set too high from the beginning.
Next, make progress. Once you get a routine down then you can add to your goals. Maybe after a month or so you can add a cardio day or a restorative day to your exercise routine. You can eliminate eggs from your diet as well as the dairy if you are transitioning to vegan. This process can take as long as it needs to, but it will help to add one thing at a time to keep you on track and to make sure that you are continuously striving for an improved you.
Finally, stay motivated. It is ok to have "cheat days" and fall off the wagon once in a while. Don't beat yourself up about it, just keep going. If you stay motivated with a result in mind and take baby steps to get there, you will be who you want to be in no time. Remember that any progress is progress. Be happy and proud of your accomplishments and keep building on them at our own pace throughout the year.
Happy New Year! Have a happy and healthy 2014.
