How to lose 100% of your excess fat in 2010

Looking to lose weight in 2010?  Before you jump in to a strict no sugar, no carb diet and fail before the 3rd of January here are a few tips to help you succeed this year!

Don't be afraid of the weight room! 

Studies have shown that lifting weights is more effective in losing fat than cardio alone.  By building muscle, you are creating lean body mass which will burn more calories while you are not working out but at rest.  For women afraid of bulking up, stop worrying!  There is nothing that will shape your body faster than pumping some iron.  Go for a weight that you can do about 15-20 reps but can barely eek out the last rep.  Repeat for at least 2 sets, 3 if you have time. 

Know your numbers!

Most people do not know their basal metabolic rate, the number of calories your body needs to maintain it's muscle and fat masses.  To consume less, you will lose weight.  To exercise and consume less, you will lose weight even faster.  However, note here that exercise is not mandatory to reach this sacred deficit.  It just helps get you to your goal faster.  Build muscle and you get to eat even more calories and still lose weight!  See a trainer to find out what your rate is.  On average, if you multiply your weight by 10 you will get a number that will allow you to lose about a pound a week.  For more on this subject, check out this video.  

Plan ahead! 

Having a plan is must when it comes to weight loss.  The only common denominator is all the diets out there are clean and real foods.  What does this mean?  Make a grocery list of foods that will help your weight loss efforts.  Get recipes before you head out the door for the week and figure out what you need.  Choose foods that come from nature!  Say goodbye to processed foods, even those 100 calorie packs you though were OK.  Load up on lean protein, especially fish, bright color vegetables, and fruits.  Make sure you have something healthy to satisfy cravings, like pickles for salty, individually wrapped dark chocolates for a sweet tooth and whatever else you may be craving.
