If you don’t use credit cards on a daily basis, use cash only and live pay check to paycheck then the best way to live on a budget is really very easy, you just have to know where to shop!!
One of the best places you can shop at is thrift shops. Years ago people thought of thrift shops being only for the unemployed or homeless people. But with today’s economy being the way it is and the majority of citizens have to learn to budget their money to pay their bills that also includes buying clothes, furniture, and every house old items like lamps, and even knick knacks to decorate the walls of the home. Stretching your money is easy to do if you know how to!
Most thrift shop items are brought in by people that no longer want the items they need or they are replacing the old with the new. Consignment shops are similar to thrift shops but most of the items are brought in by a consumer and once that item is sold the money goes back to the consumer that brought the item in.
Garage sales are great places to find bargains for your dollars. They are similar to thrift shops but they are located in most of your neighborhoods whereas the other two are located in downtown areas of small towns. If you a frugal or budget shopper you can actually find enough merchandise at any of these places to fill up your entire home or apartment. Garage sales are fun to shop at because you can barter with the person in charge of the sale and get just as many items as you would find in a thrift shop for half the prices. Thrift shops are usually non-profit organizations and the proceeds go to either a woman’s shelter or to pay for the helpers that work there. Garage sales proceeds go back to the person or persons holding the garage sales on their premises.
Once you get the item home that you purchase the best thing to do is either vacuum, wash or clean the item first before using it. Especially for clothing, wash before wearing them. For furniture, the best cleaning method is vacuum it and use upholstery cleaner, spot cleaning or even Febreeze. It can make the furniture look brand new. Household items clean method is cleaning with half mixture of bleach and water or vinegar and water. Then dry and use when done.
If you want to live on a budget and still have money to pay your bills or perhaps enjoy a night out to eat dinner, then instead of shopping at high end stores in shopping strips or malls, think about shopping at thrift shops, garage sales or consignment shops because you are helping others in your own community while you save a buck for your budget!!
