How to live a more frugal lifestyle

More and more, we hear about people who are taking steps to live more frugally. Even people with substantial incomes are looking to save money wherever possible. You never know when you may need the money you are able to save.

Some people will put this money away, somewhere safe, to have on hand in case disaster strikes. Others will pay ahead on bills to be prepared. Still others, whether they considers themselves preppers or not, will stock a pantry and do other things to be sure they have all they need on hand for if anything does go wrong.

Maybe you do not want to go to extravagant lengths right away, or ever, but want to start taking baby steps to get you to where you know you eventually want to be. Living frugally and happily. These tips will help.

  1. Start squirreling away all that change, as well as those dollar bills if desired. Take back returnables and save that change as well.

  2. Check out the dollar stores in your area. What can you get at these places that you normally pay more for elsewhere. At the very least, you could be saving on personal hygiene items and cleaning supplies.

  3. Walk everywhere possible, even when picking up only a couple bags of groceries. This will save on gas, as well as wear and tear on your vehicle.

  4. Begin trying food sold at the dollar stores, as well as store/generic brands.

  5. Start growing your own food, and making your own compost.

  6. Reassess how you heat your home. Is there a way you could be doing this that would save you money in the coming years?

  7. Make your own household cleaners.

  8. Make your own personal hygiene products when you can.

  9. Hang what laundry you can out to dry. Get a drying rack to use when it is raining, and during the winter months.

  10. Learn how to do basic maintenance tasks yourself, for both your home and vehicle.

While you are working on all this, think about other ways you could be living a more frugal lifestyle. Put these ideas on paper, and begin putting them into action.
