Valentine's Day is literally around the corner. It is essential to get it right if you really care about your special someone. But even if you don't already have an elaborate plan, you can still have a special V-Day this year.
Here are a few suggestions for wooing your boo:
- Choose a cozy restaurant - When setting the mood for V-Day, setting is key. The ambience and the atmosphere can really make a difference in whether or not you have a romantic evening. It doesn't necessarily have to be the most expensive restaurant, but you want to make sure the lighting is right and the overall feel of the restaurant is warm and inviting.
- Plan a weekend getaway - A great way to say "I love you" is to say I want to take you away. Escape from the pressures of the daily grind. Everybody wants the Alladin & Jasmin-esque situation of just getting away from it all. And in the world of Living Social and Groupon deals saying you can't afford it is no excuse. Besides, it doesn't have to be a trip to somewhere expensive. It could just be a B & B an hour away or a weekend trip to the beach. Just make it special.
- Give something that can't be unwrapped - Too often we search the stores for that perfect gift, but what really would make the day special is something that can't be unwrapped. Try going for an experience instead of just spending money on a gift. For instance, instead of buying her a bottle of her favorite wine, take her to a wine tasting. When your gift is an experience, it makes it a memorable moment that you both will remember for years to come.
- Tell each other how you feel - Sometimes in relationships you end up just going through the motions. And especially in a more seasoned relationship, couples tend to forget to tell each other how much they really mean to each other. And even in a new relationship, sometimes you both are too nervous and awkward to just come out and say how you feel. Instead of waiting for it to naturally happen, use this national holiday to let that special someone know how you feel about them. Whether it's a heartfelt card, a love coupon book, or a list of everything you love about them, you can find a cute and creative way to show your love for your boo thang. (And it's relatively inexpensive!)
The key is just to find a way to do something special without making a big deal about it. Some people hate Valentine's Day because they feel it's too commercialized, but what's wrong with a national holiday for love? What's wrong with taking a day (or a weekend) out of the whole year just to appreciate someone?? Don't ruin this V-day. And don't ignore it. If you're in a relationship, pour some out for all the single folk out there with no one to celebrate with and celebrate V-day with the one you love.
