How to handle parent critisim

It is quite common for a parent to have an occasional low viewing from someone else of their parenting skills from time to time. Being a parent is a very stressful job, one that did not come with a set of instructions or rules to go by.
Seasoned parents like to give new parents advice. They mean well by it, but it sometimes may come off as very critical. Just relax. Breathe. Here is some advice of what can be said in this situation.
1) Take a moment
When a person is told something critical, at first they may want to say something hurting in return. To avoid this, taking a short break before any rebuttal is imperative.
2) Agree to disagree
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Try to save the relationship and agree that both parties have two different opinions.
3) The best defense is not necessarily an offense
It is easy to quickly come back with a mean return, but it is not always the best thing to do. It is wise to “think before you speak”.
To handle any type of parenting negativity in a positive manner is essential to keeping any friendship in good shape. It is important to have a support system when being a parent, people who don’t pass judgment on parenting abilities. Not everyone will be as supportive, but a parent needs someone who is on their side and will lift them up when parenting brings them down.
