How to go to Maui now, free!

Forget the televised B©S Championship game on the telly Monday. We've seen enough of the inside of the Superdome in recent weeks. For our money the best use of TV time this time of year is keeping a weather eye on the Hawaiian Islands courtesy of Golf Channel.

Final round coverage of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions was being carried live at the time of this writing. The savvy Hawaiiphile knows there's more where that came from.

The PGA Tour's first stop in 2012 is annually held at Kapalua, Maui.  Most pros' family members root for a win each year,  not only for the big bucks and prestige, but a chance to go to Maui in January.  All tour pros who've won the previous year are eligible to compete.

The "Aloha Swing" continues on to Oahu for the Sony Open, before the Champions Tour brings the televised coverage to the Big  Island for the Mitubishi Electric at Hualalai.

This year, Golf Channel has added terrific aerial views such as the one that captured this rainbow over Kapalua's lush Plantation course from the weekend coverage.

In between golf shots, producers of the coverage treat viewers to views of Molokai at times, fortunate surfers are handling waves, breathtaking aerial views of Molakini crater, zip line riders, humpback whales, schools of dolphins and the list goes on.

In between the coverage, hear from the pros themselves as they tape spots to promote Hawaii tourism, or surf the net yourself at GoHawaii.com to plot your own Hawaiian getaway.

According to Orbitz, United Airlines flights for a roundtrip from San DIego to Maui  on a weekday can be had for $358.
