JAMA, states every American should take a daily multivitamin
The Final area of focus for a workout program is vitamins and supplementation. Recently, JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association, published an article stating that everyone should take a multi-vitamin. Completely reversing a long-standing view that multi-vitamins were unnecessary.
Why would they change their minds like that? For a number of reasons, most importantly, the American diet has changed so drastically that Americans just aren’t getting enough vitamins and minerals from their diets anymore and must ingest a multi- vitamin to make up for this difference. With nutritional values where they are now, it takes roughly 5000 calories per day to get all the vitamins and minerals needed. The problem with that is that is well over what most people burn in a given day, and consequently would lead to rapid weight gain
Supplements cover a very wide spectrum from general health products like antioxidants, and omega -3, to muscle gain products like creatine, and fat loss supplements like thermogenics. Some products are very good, others are not. Much of this depends on one’s body chemistry; since everyone is different it is too difficult to predict which supplements will work from one person to the next. Be sure to consult your doctor about supplements before taking them as they can complicate certain medications and medical conditions.

I'm overwhelm by the number of vitamins, mineral and other supplements we are required daily. What are the main ones to take. Are there supplements that have it all so I won't have to have a cabinet full of bottles? I take a multivitamin, 1400mg of calcium, 3 large capusle fish oil, something else for my joints and that's a mouthfull already. Is that good enough?
